WordPress Set Up
Once you have installed WordPress you’ll want to set up a few things before you start adding content to your new site. The following two videos will walk you through the general settings and changing the permalink structure.
Permalinks
A permalink is short for “permanent link“, it’s simply the URL of your pages in your WordPress site. By default your WordPress permalink looks something like this:
http://techiediy.com/?p=1725
This is doesn’t make much sense to humans, and perhaps more importantly, it doesn’t make sense to search engines either. We can edit the permalink structure across your entire site to make both humans and search robots happy.
By editing the permalink settings in WordPress, we can change the example link above to this:
http://www.techiediy.com/how-to-increase-your-klout-score
I think you would agree the latter version is more attractive. It may also provide a boost in search engine rankings which is always good.
This video will take you through all WordPress settings and is a bit long. If you are only interested in learning how to change the permalink structure I’ve included a short version that focuses on the permalink settings. Skip down below to watch the permalinks only video.
