There has been a lot of talk about the move to Solid State Drives (SSD) lately and it is primarily related to laptop computers. These are also going to be a huge part of tablet computers which is planned for huge growth this year. Now, Intel is coming out with their first SSD drive.
While these drives are much smaller than the standard laptop drive, they are composed of a series of chips that are put on a circuit board for use. Their small size makes them ideal for portable computers and storage. Costs are now starting to come down and there will be more being utilized as a result. Many other companies are now working to produce SSD drives for inclusion in products this year. One of the primary features of these drives is the speed at which they can perform the movement of data. Since there are no moving parts, they out perform traditional drives in computers.
Expect to see huge improvements in quality and drive size this year.
